Welcome to the farm.

Hey there, everyone!

As life is abnormal for everyone, I thought maybe I would take the chance to show y’all around a little. You know, really let you get the feel for the farm, us, and our pigs.

R Family Farms wasn’t officially born until 2015, but Kaden and I have been raising pigs for a while. (Well, more so Kaden, I hadn’t touched a pig until the day he took me home to the farm!) We were just young entrepreneurs with farming in our blood. In a span of 12 months, we had created R Family Farms, closed on a new home (one that needed deeply remodeled, mind you), graduated college, gotten married, and started building the hoop barns that would soon be home to our beloved Berkshire pigs.

Reading that, it seems like a lot.

It was.

And I kind of wonder how we’re still married sometimes.

But we like to take on the world head first - and we seem to get ourselves into these sort of scenarios often.

Anywho!

Kaden grew up a farm boy loving pigs in North Central Kansas, just a mile south of where our pig farm sets today.

I (Emily) grew up in South East Kansas loving crops and quality time with my daddy’s John Deere planting, working ground, and harvesting.

We met at Junior College and followed each other to Kansas State University where we both followed our dreams into the College of Agriculture.

And I guess the rest is history! We celebrated our five year wedding anniversary this May, and although my dreams were a trip to Italy through wine country and a gondola ride through Venice, Mother Nature had a different plan with the recent turn of events with COVID-19.

I think the gist of blogs is to keep it short - right? I think. I don’t know much about them, but here I am writing one. So I think I will call this part one, and say, until next time, friends.
